Toms River Futbol Club

Recreational League

After careful evaluation and with the long term growth of our players in mind, Toms River FC has made the decision to leave the Ocean County Recreational Soccer League and officially launch the Toms River FC Recreational League.

This Change allows us to create a better developmental environment for our players and teams by:

* Focusing on player growth and enjoyment

* Creating a more consistent developmental pathway

* Improving scheduling and club communication

* All games will be held at our fields

* Aligning our recreational program with the Toms River FC philosophy

We believe this move is in the best interest of our families, coaches and most importantly our players.

The fate of recreational soccer at Toms River Fc is bright and we are excited to build something special for our community!

TRFC Parent & Spectator Reminder

As we head into the season, please remember that some of the referees officiating our TRFC games are minors themselves. They are young people learning and developing just like our players.

  • Please treat every referee with respect, regardless of their age or experience.
  • Parents and spectators should not argue with, criticize, or confront referees about calls or decisions.
  • No yelling, insults, profanity, sarcasm, intimidation, or negative comments directed at referees.
  • Cheer for our players—not against the referee.
  • Mistakes happen. Referees, coaches, and players are all learning. One missed or disputed call is not a reason to engage an official.
  • Never question a referee's integrity or suggest that they are intentionally making bad calls.
  • Do not approach a referee before, during, or after the game to argue about officiating.
  • If there is a legitimate safety concern, please bring it to the attention of the coach rather than confronting the referee.
  • If a spectator's behavior becomes inappropriate, the referee may ask that spectator to leave. Please respect that request immediately.
  • Remember: Our children are watching us. The way we treat young referees teaches our players how to handle disagreement, frustration, and mistakes.
  • We want young referees to feel safe, respected, and supported while doing their job.
  •

Bottom line: These are kids officiating kids. Please give our referees the same respect and encouragement we expect for our own players.

Thank you for helping make TRFC games a positive experience for players, coaches, referees, and families.

Current minimum sanctions

NJ Youth Soccer says that allegations involving abuse/assault of a minor referee can result in immediate suspension pending a hearing, and that the minimum sanctions are doubled when the referee is a minor.

For the underlying U.S. Soccer policy, the minimum penalties include:

  • Insulting, belittling, insinuating, or taunting a referee: minimum 2-game suspension
  • Harassment, intimidation, abusive language, or non-physical threats: minimum 4-game suspension
  • Aggression, attacking/derogatory language, physical threats, cyberbullying, or doxxing: minimum 6 games and/or 6–12 months
  • Discriminatory or offensive conduct: minimum 10 games and/or 12–24 months
  • Deliberate minor physical contact: minimum 3 games and/or 1–6 months
  • More serious physical confrontation: minimum 10 games and/or 6–24 months
  • Serious physical assault: can result in extremely long suspensions, including a potential lifetime ban.

We will be hosting a Recreational Tournament on Saturday November 14!

All Toms River FC Teams are included in this tournament!

Recreational Soccer Program:

This program is tailored specifically for children in the U7 and U8 age groups and serves to enhance the skills taught in the Young Stars Junior Academy program, while introducing these children to the concept of competition.

It also provides a place to play and learn for the older child, in the U9 through U12 age groups, whose skills, experience, or level of interest/willingness to commit might not be sufficiently strong to allow them to succeed in the travel team program.

Toms River FC is a community based, all-volunteer program. In order to keep TRFC soccer thriving, it is important that we have parents and community members volunteer their time to help provide children an affordable place to develop soccer skills within their own community.

Often times we are faced with the problem of having more children register than we have teams with coaches. If we wish to continue and grow this organization, we MUST have volunteers. PLEASE consider volunteering your time to be a coach, assistant coach or co-coach (with another parent or two)

We would be honored to have you join the Toms River FC family. Our mission is to provide an environment where young soccer players from diverse backgrounds are guided and inspired to reach their full potential both on and off the field. We are completely committed to providing our community with a model of quality youth development, education, and inspiration through the sport of soccer.

As a parent, you already know it takes all of us working together to help our children reach their full potential. We encourage all of our parents to get involved and volunteer to help the Toms River FC and their teams.

Recreational Parent Volunteer Coaches - NJ Matchfit / Surf will lead one 60 minute trainer run session per week in season. Parent volunteer coaches can also lead one 60 - 90 minute practice per week and coach games on Saturdays. No prior soccer experience is necessary in order to serve as your team’s coach; We offer support to our coaches and respond quickly whenever you need support, guidance, or coaching tips.

As a volunteer coach, you will receive:
Free coach's gear and equipment to use during the season;
Ongoing support from our other coaches;
